All of the different ÷€≈types of batteries, jarg₹÷₩on and abbreviations

Battery: A battery is ma'≈de up of individual cells₽∑ connected together to store th£₩≈≈e energy needed to run electrical  •φitems. There are too ma₹♦₩∏ny types of batteries to list and∑™®α describe all of them. Co¶φ→ntact us if you have a specα↕♣"ific question.

Below is a summary of the battery ♣σtypes:

Lithium Battery: Either L→ ithium Ion, or Lithium Iron Phosphate (<↔☆↑LiFePO4): High-Quality Lithium ×≠♥®batteries have been ↔'&commercially-available for¶ π more than 10 years. They aα€αΩre strong, safe, inexpensive, and eφ≈asily provide 15 years of servic ♥e. Lithium Iron Phosphate batte&'©©ries are so stable, it is not un'← common in DIY (Do-It-Yourself) cβφircles to run them without a Battery Ma÷♣¶≈nagement System, but ∏☆γ©there is always some ri÷÷φsk – and this is not r≠‍‌₩ecommended. Lithium-I•πon batteries are slightly better-perf®'orming, but more tempermental, and×Ω they do contain Cobalt.

Lithium-Ion: Lithium-Ion÷≤ batteries are what are generally u¶¥&sed in electric cars. Also re←™₹≠ferred to as NMC (or NCM) ba∑↔tteries, the negative termσ♥↕inal contains nickel, ma÷φ<"nganese, cobalt (and other things)α‌→® to reduce weight and pr≤✔ βovide high current for★‍♥γ short periods of time. The dowσ✘nside is they are more ε₩>expensive than Lithium Iron Phospha★♣te, and temperamental – in♣εcluding being subject φδ£ to thermal-runaway. Thereλ'fore Lithium-Ion requires a more λ☆✔intensive Battery Management Systeγ m. You can expect a Lithium-Ion batt ≤ ery to last 10-years.↓←☆

Lead-Acid: There are too ma♣λny types of Lead-Acid batte♦ ry to mention, howeveφ₩£r the most common areλ&₩< Flooded Lead-Acid (FLA ∏βbattery). The main advantage of floode↓$≥d Lead-Acid is low initia→×✔§l-cost, and for Lead-Acid $♦≥in general, the ability to provide&↔↕♥ high-currents (to star₽≤‌×t an engine). Although pe↔✔λrformance is severely-reduced γ, Lead-Acid batteries can be used in♠$♠ the winter without preheat λ ing. In contrast to all LithiΩ‌um chemistries, Flooded Lead-A☆<cid batteries in particular require regδ✘<ular maintenance, ar£Ωe approximately four-ti≤<mes heavier, and three-timπ★‍'es larger.

Lithium Titanate (LTO): LTO bat↓↑‌teries are amazing. Uniquely for Lit₩‍•hium, they have excellent performanc×<★♥e in cold weather, exceeding Lead-Acid♠♦∑ by far. They also have the ab♣•ility to provide very h"₹igh currents, and theref∑‍₩↕ore can be smaller forβ• starting applications. LTO is about ∑<÷↓twice as heavy as Lithium Ion, φσbut less than half of Lead-Acid, and wi™₹•>ll easily last 20 or 30 ye£™↔¶ars. Used for military-typ♣σ$•e applications, until recently L✔↔ithium Titanate was very expensive©←♣$, but is now available at a lo∏✔±wer price. LTO does not £Ω•contain cobalt.
